The Short Mat Players Tour in partnership with Constantinou Bros Hotels will be staging the 2015 Cyprus Grand Prix at the Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos from Wednesday 3 June to Friday 5 June 2015.
The Cyprus Grand Prix will consist of three international open short mat bowls tournaments, sponsored by 3D Global Wealth Management and CP Home Services. The schedule of play will look like this:
Players from England, Scotland, Sweden and Belgium will be challenging a strong contingent of home based competitors from 4 of the short mat bowls clubs in Cyprus: Mimosa, Shogun, Star and Kama. The tournaments will be played outdoors on the Athena’s artificial rink, although there will be a contingency plan to play games indoors should adverse weather conditions prevail.
The Main Finals for all three competitions will be played from 5pm on Friday 5 June. These finals will be followed by the Gala dinner and presentations ceremony.
Short Mat Players Tour Director, Phil Mills explained: ’We are delighted to run our first event in Cyprus and the Athena Beach provides us with a fantastic setting. We intend that the Cyprus Grand Prix will be a regular fixture on the calendar and we hope that this will help to promote short mat bowls to a wider audience across the island.’
Spectators are welcome to attend the Athena Beach on any of the 3 days and should visit the hotel reception on arrival, where an admission fee of €5 per person can be paid.
