Mark Beattie wins the European Masters

Mark Beattie won the European Masters after a 10-9 victory over fellow Irishman Joe Beattie.

It was sweet revenge for Mark who lost to Joe earlier in the competition after they were drawn in the same group, that time Joe came out top 13-7. Joe also won the last time they met in a final, 10-7 in the Swedish Masters 2013.

Joe’s wife Pauline Beattie claimed the bronze medal after beating Dick Almen from Sweden 14-6, making it an Ireland and Beattie 1-2-3.

Last years defending Champion Chris Mann had to settle for the Plate this time, which he won with a 14-6 win over Steve Puttock. Kaatje Vangeneugden from host county Belgium won the Wooden Spoon after a 13-10 victory against Sam Moore from Ireland.

Mark’s win puts him top of the Order of Merit which is dominated by the Irish players. Jal Richardson drops to second with brothers Andrew & William Morrison 3rd & 4th, then comes Pauline & Joe Beattie in 5th & 6th. The full rankings can be found here.
