The draw for the fourth world ranking event of the 2018-19 season has produced a number of exceptional groups and with it, many fascinating games. What is more, the SMPT Show Mat allows spectators to witness games which feature some of the sport’s top names who are taking part in this year’s Verdemat Bowls British Open.
Below are the confirmed fixtures for the 12 sessions of group games that will be played on Day One. This talented line-up consists of players from 7 countries and includes 8 winners of SMPT ranking events, 6 World Cup winners, 3 Order Of Merit winners and a selection of World, British Isles and National Champions, past and present.
The Show Mat games include top of the table clashes in the Order Of Merit where Ed Sawbridge (2nd) plays PJ Gallagher (6th) and also in the world rankings, where James Trott (2nd) takes on Stephen Proctor (5th). Another game of special interest is the match-up between defending Champion Nigel Nicholls and the most decorated singles player on the SMPT, Joseph Beattie, who will be striving for his sixth title. With the head-to-head currently at one win each, who will prevail when the action kicks-off in York?
