SMPT’s First Charity Weekend Raises £2,760.70

The Short Mat Players Tour would like to thank all the bowlers and their supporters who travelled from across England to take part in the first SMPT Charity Weekend on the 12th and 13th March, at Park Community School in Havant, Hampshire.

Saturday’s two bowl event, the Trevor Pay Pairs, raised £1,754.67 for the Rowans Hospice and Sunday’s three bowl event, the John Burgess Pairs, raised £1006.03 for The British Heart Foundation.

Our sincere thanks go to Ian Ford, Wendy Ford, Martin Dubb and all at the Portsdown Short Mat Bowls Club for their considerable assistance and to Flo Fearon, Sue Parish and Nigel from Park Community School for their contributions which ensured the weekend ran so smoothly.

A special mention must go to the families of Trevor (Claire, Amy, Ben and Jayden Pay) and John (Miriam Burgess and Karen Gardner) for their help over the weekend. Finally, we would like to thank our generous event sponsors, Gully Howard Technical, who enabled us to raise such significant funds for these two worthy causes.

We look forward to building on the success of this inaugural event at the second SMPT Charity Weekend in 2017!
