We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mitchell Young to the directorship of the Short Mat Players Tour.

Whilst only a couple of events have been possible this season, we are delighted to announce dates for a full 2022/23 season. A welcome return to our World ranking singles events will of course be the main focus but we’ll have our usual team events mixed in too.

Following recent discussions between the SMPT directorship and consultations with venues used by the SMPT, a decision has been made to alter some of the events for the 2021/22 season.

As we say hello to a New Year with the hope of returning to some kind of normality in the not too distant future, we are delighted to announce the provisional dates for the 2021/22 SMPT season.
We stress that these dates remain provisional at this moment in time, especially due to the current situation and we shall be in constant contact with the venues and liaising directly with them as this fluid situation changes.

We’ve had another great season on the Tour that was unfortunately brought to an abrupt but sensible end.
Reflecting back over the season however, has given us more great memories and sporting excitement.
We’ve asked you, the players, to take a look at the achievements of a selected few and vote for your player of the season. Our shortlist of seven players, Alex Kley, Benny Sjogren, Gary McNabb, Jonas Hager, Jonathan Payne, Mark Beattie & Nathan Haire, was compiled by the SMPT directors and we’ve been counting your top three selections over the last 8 weeks or so. Congratulations to all who were selected and as announced earlier this week your votes narrowed it down to our three finalists, Mark, Alex & Gary.

The SMPT have been monitoring the ongoing outbreak of Covid-19 and the responses from respective Governments & health agencies.
We have been holding regular online meetings with our team and discussions with venues, sponsors and players to see whether a viable season could be staged in 2020/21.
Having weighed up all the options, including key information given to us by several of our venues, and with the likelihood that recovery from this pandemic will be a slow process, it is with a heavy heart that we feel it only prudent to cancel all events for the 2020-21 season. These include the six ranking singles events (UK Open. Irish Open, Norwegian Open, British Open, English Masters, World Masters) plus our team competitions (World Cup, World Fours Masters, World Pairs Masters, Belfast Open).

It’s that time of the year when we ask you to pick your most deserving player of the last twelve months on the Tour. The season has sadly been cut short for all of us, but we still look at all the positives from another incredible season. We have a shortlist of seven players, selected by the SMPT team, for you to choose from, one Belgian, one Englishman, two Swedes, and three from Ireland. Who will be your 2019/20 players player of the season?

We are delighted to announce the dates for the first half of our 2020/21 season. The remainder of the events for the season will be confirmed ASAP in the New Year.

The voting for the 2018-19 SMPT Players’ Player Of The Season has finished and with a record number of votes we can reveal that the winner of the SMPT Players’ Player Of The Season is...

As we look ahead to another exciting season for the Short Mat Players Tour, we wanted to update you all on developments & improvements coming in 2019/20.

What a season we’ve had, and as the dust settles, it’s that time of year where you get to select your SMPT Players’ Player of the Season. We take a look at the players who have stood out above the rest. With one Belgian, four Englishmen, three Irish players, a Swede and a Welshman to pick from, who will get your vote and become the 2018/19 PPOTS?

Every season we welcome a significant number of new players to events on the Short Mat Players Tour.
To thank those players for entering their first event and to show our appreciation to those who have recommended us, every year we run a special promotion where one of these people wins a new set of Taylor bowls.
